Learn when to ask. What to ask for. And how to confidently ask (knowing exactly what to say without feeling greedy or whiny).
Your future self (and your bank account and your confidence) will thank you.
Salary negotiation is often very different for women* (for a ton of reasons).
We’re not taught how to negotiate. We’re not taught how to ask for more.
We often don’t even realize the opportunities to ask for more…
You probably have at least ONE of the “Big 3” salary negotiation opportunities coming up in the next 12 months:
- Your performance review (this is when you negotiate a raise and/or non-financial compensation – you can initiate this process if your employer doesn’t already do reviews)
- Your role has outgrown your responsibilities (you can negotiate in this situation!)
- Moving into a new job (this is when you can negotiate the biggest salary increase)
From a young age, we’re told to be “good girls” and “play nice” and avoid conflict (yes, salary negotiation can be a type of conflict).
The usual message? We should accept what we are given.
This means that women often have to take a bit of a different negotiation approach from men. Even when women negotiate with other women, we need to take different approaches (bias knows no bounds).
Negotiation is a skill which means you can learn it
Hi, I’m Kathryn Meisner, Career & Salary Negotiation Coach and I’m here to help you learn how to negotiate.

My negotiation story
I wasn’t born knowing how to negotiate – I learned (this was especially hard for me as an introvert with a ton of soft skills).
My negotiation skills developed out of necessity, not confidence. I HAD to learn how to negotiate. I had to pay for my two degrees myself and ended up with $65k student debt (which eventually became over $80k when I merged finances with my husband).
As a result of learning these valuable skills…
- In one role, I doubled my salary within 1.5 years
- I made a $50k salary increase salary in just one job change
- I negotiated a $10k increase in a non-profit, grant-funded role (in case you’re unfamiliar with the non-profit world, this is VERY difficult to do)
I’ve now helped clients negotiate salary increases over $55k and non-financial compensation of over $25k.
Which of these situations do you need help with?
- You’re thinking about switching jobs and want to make sure you’re ready to negotiate (maybe even before you’ve found the right job – hiring processes can move fast and you want to be prepared)
- You’ve thought about asking for a raise or negotiating a new job offer or promotion but you’re super nervous and not sure how to prepare or how it works
- You have a performance review coming up and you want to be ready (or you don’t have reviews in your organization but you want to ask for a raise)
- You know that your salary is the biggest part of your budget and that women tend to be underpaid but you don’t know where to start
- Your current salary no longer fits your growing responsibilities
- Maybe you’ve already tried to negotiate and it didn’t as well as you wanted it to
- You’re feeling low on confidence and have avoided negotiating
- You don’t know when to negotiation, what to ask for, or what actual words to say
If you can relate to any of the above – you’ve come to the right place (and you’re definitely not alone).
Ask for More can help.
I’m committed to decreasing the gender pay gap, one person at a time.
What is Ask for More?
It’s my self-paced salary negotiation course for women to help you craft your negotiation and counter offer strategy for your next negotiation.
You’ll prep exactly what to do, how much to ask for, and what to say.
You’ll learn (and apply!) the same step-by-step process that I use with my one-on-one clients (this service usually costs $500+).
What does “self-paced” mean?
This course is totally self-paced which means you get to work through it at your own pace, in the order that suits you best.
For example, you may want to start with focusing on negotiating a job offer and then come back to how to negotiation a raise later. It’s basically a “choose your own adventure” type of learning experience.
Please note that there is no direct support from me in Ask for More.
What does the course cover?
In a nutshell…
- When to ask
- What to ask for (both financial and non-financial compensation)
- How to confidently ask
- What to say
- How to prepare for counter offers (without feeling whiny or greedy) a ton more
Learn a new skill. Take action. Get results.
Ask for More is designed to not only teach you how to confidently negotiate…
Ask for More is designed to bring you results.
Results like salary increases and raises ranging from $5,000-$55,000 and over $25,000 in non-financial compensation (yup, these are real results from my clients).
Results like one client who creatively negotiated her company moving across the country so she could spend more time with her family.
What’s included?
Step-by-step, action-focused video modules, a workbook, and templates that will prepare you for the the 3 main opportunities to ask for more:
How to negotiate a job offer (or promotion) from the dreaded salary expectations question to 3+ rounds of counter offers to signing your contract
How to negotiate a raise
How to negotiate when your responsibilities have changed but your title has stayed the same
What are the expected results?
For each of the above, you’ll learn:
- What exactly to ask for (including salary and non-financial things like vacation time, working remotely, professional development etc)
- How to prepare your negotiation and counter-offer strategy (there are often 3+ rounds of counter-offers)
- How to ask – what to say in person, via email, or on the phone
- How to start a negotiation (employers may not open it up)
- How to deal with tricky situations like when you’ve asked for too much, you get a “no”
- Practical and effective strategies to build up your confidence and work with your fears
You can expect to spend 5+ hours on the course homework (aka preparing for your negotiation!)

Client results…
“I was able to negotiate a non-financial increase worth $25,000”
I was able to negotiate a non-financial increase worth $25,000 – and that’s not including the additional 25 vacation days, the MacBook, the professional development, and the ability to work from home I negotiated.
You are very gifted in what you do and have made me more confident in knowing that I am a valuable woman in my role. Through this journey I was able to push my own career objectives and see a bright future.
-This client transformed her company’s performance review process to facilitate the compensation discussion. She was able to achieve these results even after her manager lectured her about “millennials who are too greedy and lazy.”
“I’ve always really struggled with negotiating on my own behalf. Working with Kathryn was transformative.”
I can ask a funder for millions without batting an eye, but I’ve always really struggled with negotiating on my own behalf. Working with Kathryn was transformative. It wasn’t just that her materials are good (they are tremendous, go sign up for her next course right this minute), but having her in your corner changes the entire emotional experience of salary negotiation.
Instead of being fraught with dread and anxiety, it helps you clarify your value and, more importantly, your values. With Kathryn’s help, I secured a significant bump in salary and “found my voice” when it comes to asking for what I need and want.
-This is a client in her mid-career who had never negotiated before (it’s never too late to learn!). She was stressed, incredibly nervous but managed her fears and was able to negotiate a 44% increase even after she’d shared her current salary with the employer.
“Not only did Kathryn help me negotiate the company moving to MY city, she helped negotiated a $15k increase and a support staff.”
My responsibilities were growing AND my company was giving me the ultimatum of moving 1000km or leave my job. Not only did Kathryn help me negotiate the company moving to MY city, she helped negotiated a $15k increase and a support staff.
-Executive-level client
Negotiating a raise after a “no”
This client’s salary had been stalled for more than a year. She had asked for a raise at her previous performance review but was denied due to “financial constraints” but was finally able to negotiate a $20,000 raise.
FAQs
What if I don’t have a negotiation coming up?
You probably have at least a performance review at some point. Ask for More can also be useful to help you learn and practice negotiation skills before you need them.
Will I get any support from you? Is there any 1:1 help?
This course is totally self-paced which means that there is no direct support from me. You get to work through it at your own pace, in the order that suits you best.
For example, you may want to start with focusing on negotiating a job offer and then come back to how to negotiation a raise later. It’s basically a “choose your own adventure” type of learning experience.
What if I want 1:1 help?
I’m having my first kid in April so I’m taking a short maternity leave from April until the fall. This means I’m not available for any 1:1 help until then.
If you want to negotiate your salary by Fall 2018 (or start prepping for a negotiation) Ask for More is currently my only available option for salary negotiation support.
How long do I have access to the course?
This is a self-paced course so you can Netflix binge it in an afternoon or go through it as slowly as you’d like.
You’ll have access to the course forever. Use it for all your future negotiations!
Plus, you’ll receive any course content updates.
Is there a refund policy?
Refunds are not available. If you are wondering if Ask for More is right for you, email me at hello@kathrynmeisner.com
